The results of the Research Infrastructures 2024 Calls under the Horizon Europe Programme's Science Excellence component have been announced. Four projects involving partners from Turkey have been deemed worthy of support, receiving a total of €1,321,250.00 in grant funding.
WeatherGenerator- WeatherGenerator
Project led by Buluttan Meteorology & Technology with a budget allocation of €650,000.00. WeatherGenerator aims to develop an AI-based weather prediction model using a wide range of global observational data. The 4-year project aims to deliver the world's most consistent weather model at the lowest computational costs. Cloud-based Meteorology & Technology will conduct research and development to implement the model's applications in the renewable energy sector. The goal is to minimize costs in the renewable energy sector and enhance investments in clean energy..
CLIMATE-ADAPT4EOSC-Fair Data and Innovative Services for Magnifying the Climate Adaptation potential of European Communities
Project led by NovitopiaInformation Technologies with a budget allocation of €337,500.00. CLIMATE-ADAPT4EOSC aims to remove barriers to access climate data, ensuring seamless data flow among researchers and stakeholders. The project aims to transform Europe into a prepared and resilient society against climate change. It will provide two main services for FAIR data generation, sharing, and analysis by facilitating harmonious interaction between the EOSC e-infrastructure containing climate-related data and EU and national climate data domains. The project plans to demonstrate the value of data sharing and reuse through innovative methods and tools tested in 11 real-case scenarios across three EU countries.
RI-SCALE – Unlocking RI potential with Scalable AI and Data
Project to be executed by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM with a budget allocation of €253,750.00. The primary objective of RI-SCALE is to enhance the services provided by research centers generating data through scalable computing infrastructures and AI-based applications. It aims to develop a Data Exploitation Platform to process and improve data analysis capabilities in collaboration with environmental sciences, health sciences, and other data spaces. TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM will provide computational resources and support software development processes in this project.
TRANSFORM2-TowaRds AdvaNced multidiSciplinary Fault ObseRvatory systeMs²
Project led by Boğaziçi University with a budget allocation of €80,000.00. TRANSFORM2 aims to develop early warning systems for monitoring active faults using next-generation sensors and AI-based data processing techniques at near-field observatories. The project focuses on understanding earthquake patterns through new techniques like fiber-optic cable sensors and machine learning. It also aims to establish and strengthen an international research group and network experienced in AI and other relevant topics, addressing the needs of stakeholders from industries, transportation, and local and central governments.
GÉANT Projects- GN5-2
For the project to be carried out by TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM, a budget of €117,415 has been allocated. The GEANT Projects, together with 37 project partners representing all National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) across Europe, have been supporting research and education communities for over 20 years. GN5-2, which will commence on January 1, 2025, with a European Commission grant of €80 million, is the newest among these projects. GN5-2 aims to provide an infrastructure for education and research networks in Europe that offers connections in multiples of 100 Gb/s, targeting Terabit/s, and is cost-effective, flexible, secure, and highly available. Additionally, there are plans to prototype, pilot, and ultimately deploy new online network services to expand the existing digital service portfolio for researchers and students. TÜBİTAK ULAKBİM will be involved in developing the InAcademia authentication service, ensuring privacy while enabling access to online services for students and academics.
